Summertime in northern France

April 27, 2015

If, like me, you love to travel but struggle to find destinations that your whole family will love without compromising on anything, then hopefully this blog will be for you!

We regularly travel from the UK to Europe on holiday, and one of our favourite areas to visit is the north of France. Not only is it close to home, but it’s so easy to get to! We take the car across and it gives us the freedom to travel at our own pace, perfect if you’re bringing your kids along with you.

France is beautiful, and the weather in the summer is gorgeous without being uncomfortably hot for the kids, so if you like to be active and outdoorsy on holiday then the north of France is a great destination.

Normandy, Britanny and Nord-Pas-De-Calais all have miles upon miles of sweeping beaches and coastline which is just begging to be explored, and kids always love a trip to the beach!

Our favourite French beach is Ploumanac’h village’s. The landscape is absolutely amazing and magical, the kids love it because it looks like something out of a fantasy movie! The coastal walks around Ploumanac’h are beautiful and the rocks and sand come in the most unusual colours, it’s great for families.

Our kids love history, and love learning about the First and Second World War in particular. The north of France is one of the best places in the world to learn the stories as they all took place there. We like to visit the battlefields and the beaches from the Normandy Landings to give the kids a real idea of what happened back then, as well as visiting the cemeteries for a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by ordinary people.

We love camping, and the north of France has some fantastic campsites, with loads to do for the family including sports and games facilities. Sometimes you just want a comfortable, relaxing holiday and when that is the case we usually find a holiday home or an apartment to stay in. Sunparks and Pierre & Vacances are usually our first port of call when we’re looking as they have a range that is suitable for families of any size.
