September 17, 2014

No matter how many times that you’ve visited Holland, you’ll be sure to discover new hidden hideaways at your own pace as you cycle through the Dutch countryside, watching the stunning scenery float past as you go.

Whether you’re new to cycling or an everyday cyclist commuter, there will be a route from you – from cycling the Dutch coastal routes to the ever popular Ijsselmeer tour. With an ideal climate & flat landscape, Holland makes a great destination for anyone wanting to explore using pedal power.

Don’t worry – it’s safe and easy to get around by cycling, with more than 32,000km of cycle paths throughout the Netherlands, all completely separate from motor traffic.

Top tip: Use the junction network to explore beautiful hotspots that you may otherwise have missed.

If quaint historical towns and relaxing scenery is you ideal getaway from the everyday hustles and bustles of life, a cycling break would be right up you street. Try starting with the Ijsselmeer Tour – a 400km route. It is one of the most popular cycling routes in Holland and showcases the very best of the country!

Cycle through traditional towns boasting their narrow streets, canals and drawbridges, & with the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen, you can even experience life how it used to be. So no matter what your age, you can enjoy soaking up the Dutch culture as you go!

But it’s not all about history – check out the nature reserves of Wieden & Weerribben too.

We’d allow about 8 days to full complete the Ijsselmeer Tour, but using the junction routes, you can always shorten or modify it if you want to explore with your own itinerary.

If you’re looking for a slightly shorter route, how about a 5 day tour of Amsterdam, Haarlem, Leiden, Dordrecht and Utrecht? Or if it’s your first time exploring by cycling, try day experiences – pick your destination and see what you want at your own pace.

If you’re heading to the Dutch capital, here’s a great video from i Amsterdam to see all the great places that you can see when travelling by bicycle in the city:

Don’t forget, cycling is all about pedal power, so not only is a good for the environment, but it is also great for your own health too!
