Amsterdam Fashion Week Hotspots – Part 2

Since its beginnings in 2004, Amsterdam Fashion Week has occurred twice a year. In recent years, the event has really started to make a name for itself, thanks to a selection of public shows around the city mainly focussing on Dutch and Belgian designers. Amsterdam Fashion Week aims to establish itself as the home of the New Luxury segment of the fashion market, aimed at affluent customers who reject commercial brands and instead value exclusivity and originality.

Photography and Fashion – 13^th Jan, Foam Fotographiemuseum

It’s hard to imagine a world where fashion and photography didn’t work hand-in-hand, the 2 worlds have co-existed for generations, so it’s no surprise to see photography take its place in Amsterdam Fashion Week. Designer Duran Lantink and writer Jan Hoek have booked Foam to present their Sistaaz of the Castle project, focussing on the transgender community in South Africa, all within the magnificent surroundings of an old canal house, re-decorated with modern chrome and glass.

Fashion on Ice – 13^th Jan, ICE* Amsterdam

This is no catwalk! Fashion on Ice is a mysterious, winter fairytale, inspired by the designs of Judith van Vliet and acted out by magical ice skating figures. The ice rink in Museumplein becomes a runway, as fashion comes alive with the art of skating and spectacular lighting against the backdrop of ICE* Amsterdam.

Offline Connection – 14^th Jan, 5&33 Gallery at Art’otel

Yes, yes, we know that you’re reading this on the internet, but Fashion Fest believe we need to get over our obsession with living online so are throwing this party in association with online fashion personalities FashionChick, BillieRose and Mrs. Mokum to bring us together in real life. After a fashion presentation from Dr Hauschka and a Jutka & Riska pop-up store, enjoy a live photoshoot from GUP to launch their new book, New Photo.

Fashion Volcano – 16^th Jan, WOW Amsterdam

Taking place in WOW Amsterdam, a hostel, cultural hub, restaurant and more, Fashion Volcano is a fashion show which has been built by a huge number of designers, including names such as as Lisa Konno, Tijme Veldt, Anne van den Boogaard, Winde Rienstra, Karim Addouchi, Fernanda Fernandes and Wintervacht. This amalgamation of styles and inspirations is sure to create an explosive show!
