Amsterdam Fashion Week Hotspots – Part 1

January 8, 2016

Since its beginnings in 2004, Amsterdam Fashion Week has occurred twice a year. In recent years, the event has really started to make a name for itself, thanks to a selection of public shows around the city mainly focussing on Dutch and Belgian designers. Amsterdam Fashion Week aims to establish itself as the home of the New Luxury segment of the fashion market, aimed at affluent customers who reject commercial brands and instead value exclusivity and originality.

So what’s happening at Amsterdam Fashion Week this year? Well, here are 5 events at 5 unique locations definitely worth checking out for anybody making the trip…

Franzel Amsterdam – 8th Jan, FOUR by Azzurro

Much like Amsterdam itself, Italian fashion label Azzurro combines the classic and the contemporary, with 4 separate shops across the Dutch capital. Playing host to fashion label, Franzel, FOUR kicks off Amsterdam Fashion Week with a special festive show to debut 3 new and exclusive footwear models.

Fashion and Health – 9th Jan, Hoxton Hotel

Amsterdam Fashion Week isn’t just about clothing and footwear and this exhibition, set in the magnificent Hoxton Hotel in Herengracht, is all about what is in vogue in the health sector. With lectures from cosmetic brand Oolaboo, yoga workshops from sports label Fabletics and healthy cooking classes from food consultant Michelle Den Hollander, you’re sure to find something to interest you, whether you’re a gym buff, or you’re planning a new year’s resolution.

Fashion Behind the Scenes – 10th Jan, Pathe Arena and Jaz Hotel

A 2-part event, Fashion Behind the Scenes begins in the Pathe Arena – a local cinema – with Dior and I, a film which takes you behind the scenes of the world-famous couture brand. As you might expect, the film is as wonderfully styled and beautifully put together as Dior’s outfits. Then check out the Jaz Hotel, where catwalk coach Dyonne will give runway advice, SWAG will provide fashion-themed theatre and host a Q&A where you can see the real backstage actions of Jutka and Riska.

Music and Fashion – 11th Jan, Volkshotel

Music and Fashion is an event which seeks to explore the inextricable links between the worlds of, you guessed it, music and fashion! Anne Van Der Boogard will begin by presenting her new fashion line, which is inspired by “destructive love songs”, through the use of live music. After that, Jett Rebel, a musician with a strong sense of style, will discuss his views on fashion, all live in the wonderful Volkshotel.

Couture Ensemble – 12th Jan, DeLaMar Theater

Set in the gorgeous, contemporary and glass-front DeLaMar Theater, the Couture Ensemble event is an evening out for the love of couture. Combining beautiful strains of classical music from the Dutch Philharmonic Orchestra with an exhibition of pieces from Dutch designer Monique Collignon.
