Museum Night Fever

March 2, 2016

It’s Night Fever, but there are no disco balls, flares or big collars in sight. Every year, museums in Brussels open for a night of fun. This year, it’s happening on Saturday 5 March. 2016 is the 9th Museum Night Fever, with 24 museums taking part, including some of Brussels’ biggest and most famous galleries, halls and more.

The 24 museums taking part include the Museum of the City of Brussels, which contains Manneken Pis’s dressing room, Wiels, the contemporary arthouse, Bozar, with its mind-bending interactive exhibitions and Autoworld, with everything from the finest vintage cars to amphibian vehicles!

By day, you can explore your favourite museums and their exhibitions as normal, but by night they’ll be hosting events such as workshops, gatherings, meet-and-greets, recitals, DJ sets (ok, so maybe we lied about there being no disco balls) and more.

The events take place between 7pm and 1am, and what’s more you can enjoy free transport around the city with your Museum Night Fever pass, so revellers can hop between a few and take in as much as possible.

The Musical Instruments Museum is hosting a special event called Chocolate and Soundscapes, which combines Belgium’s most famous export with ambient, abstract musical accompaniment as you sample and taste chocolate bars, for a multisensory experience. More music can be found at the Museum of Natural Science, where they’re hosting a Balkan music night, with 20 young musicians playing traditional folk music from the region.

Grab a bite to eat at any of the food vans around the city, including vegetable-only meals from SINstreetfood, on the Mont Des Arts, the Sur du Mer foodtruck with its preparation of shellfish and seafood, or the nomadic Soul Kitch’en at Extra Muros. There are also bars at Cinematek and Bozar, as well as cafes and brasseries in most of the museums taking part.

Finally, after all of the shows, workshops and food, there is an afterparty, held in the Bloody Louis in the heart of the city, with special buses to take you to and from the museums. There will be a number of DJs performing on the night, including Geordie hitmaker Patrick Topping, as well as live painting, video-mapping and more!

What a night!
