Don’t Miss the Ibis!

February 6, 2015

We booked a two night mini break staying at the Ibis Stopera Amsterdam. I was a bit sceptic at first as the Ibis hotels in the UK can be very basic, however on arrival the hotel’s exterior was very inviting and the first general impressions were very positive.

Checking in was a breeze, with additional staff stepping in when a coach of people rocked up. We were greeted with friendly staff who told us about the area and hotel facilities including breakfast times. We were really surprised about all the offerings and were rather excited that breakfast was until midday, which is unheard of for those of us who like a steady start!

On the way up to the room I was impressed with the security, as you can’t even get in the lift without a room key. The room was bigger and much better equipped than I expected – it even had a TV!

We had a room on the 7th floor with lovely views over the Amsterdam rooftops. For an additional small fee you can upgrade to a canal view room, but we stayed put as we were really happy with the room we had. It also had the most amazing walk in shower, which I couldn’t wait to get into after a wander around a wintery Amsterdam.

The best thing about our Ibis experience was when the reception staff mentioned in our introduction that they provided bike hire! It wasn’t something I had considered but they were so reasonably priced at €16 for 24hrs and so convenient to just quickly book at reception. Be prepared though, you need to be strong willed to ride a bike in Amsterdam, but once you get the hang of it, its great!

We had a wonderful night’s sleep at the Ibis and the room was lovely and cosy. Come the next morning, I was thinking it couldn’t get any better. That is until went to breakfast. It’s a DIY buffet, but doesn’t everyone prefer that for breakfast? Seconds, hello!? There were loads of options and it was all delicious. I especially enjoyed the copious amounts of really delicious coffee!

All in all, a really enjoyable stay. The highlights of which were:

  • The delicious breakfast
  • The super efficient staff
  • The facilities, especially the bikes
  • And the enormous shower!!
