Women At DFDS: Neringa Sinkevičienė

March 14, 2022

After celebrating International Women’s Day on 8 March we started thinking about all the great women who work at DFDS and there are simply too many to just mention in one day. So we’ve decided to set up this series of blog posts celebrating inspirational women in the workplace here at DFDS, to find out what motivates them, who inspires them and how they’ve got to where they are today.

In today’s blog post we meet Neringa from our Lithuanian office who tells us the joys of working in such a collaborative team, why she chose to work for DFDS and more…

Why did you choose to work for DFDS?

It was purely for the partnership. Six and a half years ago DFDS was hunting for fresh blood. I was living in the capital (Vilnius) at the time, was very keen to move to the seaside (Klaipėda) and have new challenges. And the challenge was huge. Totally new business, a big team and a lot of opportunities to learn and develop.

What is your job at DFDS and what does it involve?

Here, at DFDS, I started as General Manager for sales and marketing in the Passenger business for the Baltic routes and Baltic markets. I then continued as a Campaign Manager for the Baltic routes covering all key markets. I am part of a strategic team and growth owner for the Baltic Agile Marketing team leading all marketing activities.

How did you get where you are today?

By accident. :)

Are there any women that have inspired you within DFDS or externally?

I don’t have a favourite one. I believe every woman I’ve met could be an inspiration for a new stage of my life.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?

For me, it is a reminder that we are in a world where difference is valued and celebrated.

What do you think of DFDS as a workplace?

DFDS brings people together working towards a shared goal, learning different cultures, sharing ideas, knowledge and experience with one another. We can also come up with creative solutions that no one person could have thought up alone. In one word – it is a family. :)

What is your proudest moment/highlight from working at DFDS?

I’m extremely proud of my team in the first place. The team trust me and believe in me as well as I do. I have created an environment where no member is afraid to make mistakes as this gives us the possibility to learn and there is no mistake you can’t fix.

I use my passion for planning and strategies for a good purpose. I’ve developed a long-term strategy containing all functional fields so that all teams could work together towards a joined goal. This means everyone is aware of their duties and understands what they are expected to do, how they will do it and what the goals are to lead to success.

Is there any advice you’d give to other women/girls either in general or about working in our industry?

I don’t give advice as the consequences cost a lot. I just encourage all women to find their own path, enjoy the process and to always celebrate their success.

Where would you like to be in 5-10 years?

I want to continue working in a collaborative environment where every employee can thrive. I see my ideas making a bigger positive impact on the company, and I will use my communication and leadership skills to make this happen.

What is an interesting fact about yourself that other people may not know?

I have a star in the sky under my name as an appreciation for the work I‘ve done in a previous company.
