Luxury Shopping in Amsterdam – 5 of the best

November 8, 2015

Amsterdam is a famous city of contrasts, where relics of the Dutch Golden Age lie side-by-side with symbols of the country’s progressive and liberal present. This makes the Dutch capital a fascinating shopping city, with everything from small, independent boutiques to huge department stores to explore.

One thing the Dutch capital does very well is luxury brand and designer shopping, and we’ve rounded up some of the best and most interesting for you here…

P.C. Hooftstraat

Named after the 17th century poet and playwright, Pieter Cornelizs Hooft, P.C Hooftstraat is located near Museumplein and has been a popular luxury shopping destination since the 70s. With clothing brands such as Hugo Boss, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and plenty more alongside Rolex and Michael Kors stores, P.C. Hooftstraat really is one of Amsterdam’s most prestigious shopping streets.

Van Baerlestraat

Another part of the city’s designer fashion district, Van Baerlestraat is located near P.C. Hooftstraat and has a selection of excellent Dutch designer brands represented along its shop fronts. Wander through Pauw, The People of the Labyrinths and Fred de la Bretonière stores, or treat yourself to a facial, manicure or massage at the Soap Treatment Store.

Ennu

Based on Cornelis Schuytstraat, Ennu is one of the best destinations for high-end fashion for men and women in Amsterdam. The whole building is achingly cool, with smoked glass windows and a sharp, striking interior design. Ennu sells clothes from Rick Owens, Comme des Garcons and other world-famous fashion brands.

Gassan

There are diamond stores all over Amsterdam, selling some of the finest cuts available in the world, however if you want to learn about the diamond industry while browsing and shopping then Gassan is the best place for you. See the entire diamond-cutting process first-hand and witness 4 centuries of industry experience before picking yourself (or someone special) up a wonderful gift.

Department Stores

De Bijenkorf is the main department store in Amsterdam, but by no means the only one. Maison de Bonneterie is the slightly less-obvious choice for a modern department store in the city, but has plenty to offer visitors within its classic layout. Both department stores are well stocked for luxury brands, as well as places to eat and more, plus you don’t have to take any chances with the weather!
