PRINCESS SEAWAYS has recently launched a brand new & very exciting restaurant concept onboard, offering a delicious selection of stone-baked pizzas, pasta, starters & desserts. A great choice for families travelling onboard with us, but is equally proving to be very popular with couples, old and young!

The galley crew onboard were particularly excited about the new concept’s introduction as it brings with it a brand new pizza oven, delivering the great stone-baked taste that pizza fanatics all over love! It has also enabled the onboard baker to make Italian style bread too, enhancing that true stone baked taste.

I caught up with PRINCESS SEAWAYS’ Chef du Cuisine, Horst Gross, to find out more about the launch of Little Italy.

Tell me more about you, Horst.

Well…I’ve been working onboard DFDS Seaways since 1981, across many routes in that time. But I’ve been onboard PRINCESS SEAWAYS now for five years.

What’s life onboard like?

I spend two weeks onboard, and then two weeks at home. Life onboard is very busy – I am responsible for a kitchen of 19 staff, serving hundred’s of passengers every evening & every breakfast.

Where is home?

I am from Broager, which is in the south of Denmark.

Tell me more about the menu in Little Italy.

Little Italy is a great place to come and enjoy a pizza & glass of wine with special ones; friends or family. But it’s not all about pizza! We have a choice of two antipasti, nine mains (two pasta dishes & seven pizzas), as well as two desserts.

What’s the most popular dish?

So far it seems to be the pizzas, especially the Diavola & the classic Margherita.

And what would your choice be?

I like food with a good spicy kick, so for me, it would have to be the Diavola!
