A City Break with Plenty of Family Fun!

City breaks often present a challenge when travelling with a young family – but if you’re thinking of heading to Amsterdam, you’ll not have to worry about keen your little ones entertained!

Head over to the Artis Zoo to capture their imagination in the aquarium, planetarium and butterfly pavilion. Complete with botanical gardens, the zoo has been keeping the Dutch capital wild since 1838 – there’s a lot to be explored and you’ll need plenty of time to discover everything that it has on offer. Stroll among the shady trees, travel to the stars & experience nature right in the heart of the city centre…

Why not get set and enjoy a family picnic in Vondelpark – the largest park in Amsterdam. Let your little ones play, run around and enjoy some outdoor fun, boasting 5 children’s playgrounds. Popular for walking, cycling and eating ice creams! Take a family snap next to one of the many sculptures that can be found there, or enjoy an open-air performance during June, July & August. For older children, you can hire roller skates and enjoy some gentle exercise as you explore the sights and sounds of the park.

Enjoy the fresh air as a family? A great way to explore the city together is by canal, but combine this with exercise on the ever-popular Canal Bikes. Exploring the Dutch capital by canal is a great way to see all the sights and sounds that are on offer, and keep the children entertained with pedal power throughout the day. Available at four locations throughout the city, you can rent the four-seater pedal boats and take your time to explore Amsterdam.

If it’s not great weather when you’re in Amsterdam, don’t be put off – there’s plenty indoor must-sees and do.

Starting with the NEMO Science Centre – Holland’s biggest science centre! Here , you can discover the wonderful world of science and technology in a playful and entertaining way… There’s plenty of surprises! Complete with films and demonstrations, young or old, you are bound to learn something new and enjoy yourself while doing so here!

Science not your thing? How about capturing your family’s imagination in the Amsterdam Dungeon? A tour of the dark history of Amsterdam – throw your mind and imagination back through a spooky adventure as you discover about Amsterdam’s past.

How about meeting your favourite celebrity? That’s right – you can in Amsterdam! Well, you can at least meet their waxwork! Take a trip around Madame Tussauds – a great place for fun across all ages! Take some memorable photos of you and your family with your favourite celebrity, from sport stars to royals, in this well-loved attraction!
