Unforgettable French Campsites

September 19, 2014

Camping is travelling in its purest and most romantic form, and what better country to enjoy it in than the most romantic country in the world? France has a range of landscapes, from rugged coastline to rolling countryside, and some excellent camping facilities for you to take advantage of.

Domaine les Moulins, Ile de Normoutier

After crossing a cobbled causeway to the Ile de Normoutier just off France’s western coast, you will be transported back in time to the Mediterranean of the early 20th Century. Rows of whitewashed cottages line the sleepy streets, with residents occasionally rolling past on a bicycle.

There are cabins and tipis available to rent at a cost here, but also more affordable DIY Camping options, which start from just €22 a night. In terms of facilities, you will find tennis courts, pentanque, a restaurant, a kid’s club, crazy golf and more.

Hop on a DFDS Seaways ferry from Newhaven to Dieppe or Portsmouth to Le Havre and you will arrive just a few hours’ drive from this campsite after a comfortable crossing on our well-equipped cruise ferry.

Camping le Rompval, Mers-les-Bains

Lying south of Baie de Somme, atop chalk cliffs, is this pretty and wooded parkland where you can pitch your own tent for just €21.50 a night. There is a gorgeous beach nearby which is small and pebbly during high tide, but becomes gloriously sandy in low tide.

For a truly special camping experience, book one of the eco-pods available. These mini, grass-roofed buildings are extra-cosy and ideal for couples sharing an intimate trip away.

Take a DFDS Seaways ferry to Dieppe and you will be within touching distance of Camping le Rompval after an enjoyable time onboard.

Chateau Camping de la Bien Assise, Calais

Less than 20 minutes from the ferry port and Eurotunnel terminal by car, this impressive campsite is set in the grounds of an 18th-century manor house. With cycle hire, minigolf, football pitches, a children’s play area and more, there is plenty to keep you busy during your stay.

There is a gourmet restaurant, café and takeaway for you to choose from, as well as a decent-sized shop which stocks everything you will need to enjoy your stay in this excellent campsite.

Chateau Camping de la Bien Assise is easy to reach from our Calais and Dunkirk ports, so why not catch one of our 44 daily sailings between Dover and France?

Chateau l’Evedent, Pont l’Eveque

Set in the Normandy countryside, this campsite is popular with British and French tourists alike due to its beautiful location, nestled in the centre of 6 hectares of orchard land, surrounding a lake and featuring a 16th-century hunting lodge.

There are plenty of facilities to keep you busy in the campsite including a heated outdoor pool, cycle hire, fishing, canoeing, football, volleyball and more, but this is also an excellent base to begin exploring northern France.

The Normandy countryside is easy to reach from any of our 4 routes to France, so whether you come from Dover, Portsmouth or Newhaven, you can find a crossing that is convenient for you.

Les Mouettes, Carantec

A coastal campsite located just a short walk from the beaches of Brittany, Les Mouettes is an excellent base for exploring the western coast of France. Lying just outside the coastal town of Carantec, visitors can head to the town for market stalls, shops, creperies and restaurants.

The campsite also doubles up as an exciting waterpark, with 4 pools, Jacuzzis and waterslides, as well as typical camping and outdoor facilities such as tennis courts, cycle hire, mini golf and more. Perfect for keeping the family entertained.

Take your car over the Channel on our Newhaven-Dieppe or Portsmouth-Le Havre routes and you can drive to the Brittany coast in just a few short hours, and with our onboard facilities, your holiday starts as soon as you’re onboard.
