Our Journey – David & Paty

Hi everybody!

Our names are David and Paty, and we’re here to tell you about our recent holiday to France with DFDS Seaways.

As part of our trip, we took our car on the ferry from Dover to Dunkirk. This meant we could take our time and travel at our own pace, and gave us plenty of room to pack as much as we needed, without having to get the scales out!

Finding the port was easy, and after a short wait we were onboard with our car safe and secure on the car deck. We travelled on a lovely sunny day, so as we sailed we spent a bit of time out on the deck taking in the sea views, but there was plenty more to do on the short journey too.

After having a quick bite to eat by the window of the restaurant we had a walk around the shop to see if we could pick up any bargains. I wasn’t expecting there to be so much on offer. It was very spacious and you could even pick up gifts and souvenirs, as well as perfumes, make-up and items you might not have realised you’d need such as maps, adaptors and other essentials.

It wasn’t long before we arrived in Dunkirk and after a short wait we were off the ship and ready to head onto the motorway. The north of France was our oyster, and we explored at a pace that suited us down to the ground. Our particular favourite was Lille, a beautiful city with a great deal to offer visitors.

Just over one hour’s drive south from the port of Dunkirk we came across a beautiful 12th century town called Arras, well known for its architecture, culture, and history. Some famous attractions also include the splendid Town Hall and its Belfry (listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site). The Squares (La Place des Héros and La Grand’Place) are perfect places to sit out in the sun and have a lovely cold drink and enjoy a meal. The town and surrounding areas are steeped in the history of the first and second world wars. We also arrived in the middle of a jazz festival, which was great fun to sit, listen and dance!

With so much to see and explore in Europe, taking your car across on the ferry is a great way to travel, plus its superb value, convenient and very good fun too! We can’t wait to travel again – next time we are planning a trip to Bruges.
