Discover the House of Bols

November 6, 2014

The House of Bols is one of Amsterdam’s most interesting museum experiences. Located in Museumsplein in the centre of the city, it tells the story of Lucas Bols, the world’s oldest distilled spirit brand.

Lucas Bols have been making liqueurs in Amsterdam since 1575 including the Dutch cocktail favourite Bols Genever, which dates back to around 1820. There are over 38 Bols liqueurs available, in a variety of styles, flavours and strengths, making them a perfect ingredient for just about any cocktail.

The House of Bols experience is a multi-media, audio-visual journey through the history of the Lucas Bols Company, telling the story of the world’s oldest distilled spirits brand. Not only will you learn about the brand, but with the interactive cocktail experience in the revolutionary Mirror Bar you will be able to have a spirit of your choice mixed into a cocktail, just for you.

The Hall of Taste offers you the chance to taste a wide range of Bols liqueurs, as well as learn all about the production and craft behind the House of Bols liqueurs and Genevers.

Apart from the excellent Mirror Bar, the House of Bols also offers a lesson in flair bartending in the Flair Booth. You can even make a spectacular movie of yourself to show friends and family, so if you’ve ever fancied replicating the Addicted to Love scene in Cocktail with Tom Cruise, then be sure to pay attention!

The House of Bols Experience won the Dutch Design Award for Best Exhibition and Experience, which shows its pedigree as one of Amsterdam’s best attractions for both tourists and locals alike. Much like the rest of Amsterdam, the House of Bols Experience is a perfect blend between classic and contemporary, producing a heady cocktail of education and entertainment.

The House of Bols is located in the Museum Quarter of Amsterdam and entry is €14.50, which includes a free cocktail. You must be 18 years or over to enter.
